Interview with Lisa Borg

article

For those who may not know you already, please start by telling us a bit about yourself and why you started with IVF treatments?

My name is Lisa Borg, I’m 35 years old and live with my husband Henrik. My mother went through IVF when I was a child, so I had a feeling it might be the same for me. I prepared Henrik early in our relationship that this might also have fertility struggles and need IVF. And sure enough, we did an investigation and were diagnosed with "unexplained infertility," so now we’re doing our third IVF.

What were your initial feelings when you realized that you needed to start IVF?

I was really excited. Of course, I had hoped to get pregnant naturally, but I always accept a challenge.

Which parts of the IVF process have been the hardest for you, both mentally and physically?

Keeping track of all the dates and feeling locked into the healthcare system. I don’t like when others control things for me.

How have your relationships with your partner, family, friends, etc., been affected by IVF?

Only positively! Everyone has been so supportive and sweet. My bond with my husband has only grown stronger because we have a common goal. Of course, it’s been tough at times, especially when we got pregnant and then had a miscarriage after our second transfer. But now, we’re out of the dark tunnel and ready for the next egg retrieval!

Is there any misunderstanding or comment that has been especially difficult for you to handle?

I get triggered when people give me unsolicited advice on how to get pregnant. I understand that it often comes from a good place, but it doesn’t sit right with me.

Is there something you wish people who are not going through IVF or infertility understood better?

That the hormones are a rollercoaster. Some weeks I feel completely depressed, and other weeks I feel amazing! It can be really tough at times.

Has it always been obvious to you to share your journey on social media and with your loved ones? Why or why not?

Yes! Sharing difficult things in life is so therapeutic, both for me and others. Neither Henrik, who is also an influencer, nor I hesitated for a second about whether to share it or not. So now, every step is part of a series on my YouTube @Lisaborg. I can really tell how appreciated it is by those who watch, which makes me so happy.

What advice would you give to someone going through infertility or just starting their IVF journey?

 •  Dare to talk about it, even if you feel ashamed. It’s so much easier to get support in case of a miscarriage and understanding for mood swings!

 •  Don’t worry too much. What’s meant to be, will be. Every step is one step closer to a golden egg.

 •  If your partner has a hard time understanding or doesn’t want to support you on this IVF journey, that’s a good indication that they’re not the right partner for you, and you can always make a change.
